Pros

Room for advancement. I had several terrific managers throughout my career.

Cons

There has been intense change for several years and it doesn’t end up working out or improve profitability. It results in constant staffing changes, layoffs, and lack of underwriting consistency. Recent announcements are resulting in several layoffs in commercial and PL underwriting, claims, risk control and product. In a booming economy this is a troubling concern while other carriers are looking for talent, NW is laying them off. The organization is too top heavy with too many people with random VP titles. There is a lack of consistency in commercial underwriting for target markets. IMO Nationwide tries to be everything to everybody in commercial resulting in a terrible combined ratio.

Pros

Good people and good team building. The only reason

Cons

Overworked and under paid. Constantly preach about work-life balance while working their understaffed departments to death. The amount if stress caused issues in all aspects of life. The advertise as a military friendly company but resfuse to update their military policy to match competing companies.
