Pros

Great Top level management (executives/SVP/VP's) Good vision and strategy for products. Good work like Balance Good growth in certain groups Good pay (base salary)

Cons

First/second level management ( in QA ) have zero understanding of the product and very poor at evaluating technical talent. They rely on Sr technical people from other to provide the evaluation and this forces engineers to go to forum and meetings there shouldn't be going there by wasting a lot of time creating visibility instead of doing real work. QA product knowledge across the board is very much lagging. VP's say quality is more important but they refuse to invest in good QA talent. Dev to QA ratio is very low and even senior QA talent in this company is very less (The difference between Total MTS levels is DEV and QA is too high)

Pros

As a former long term NetApp employee I can say technical work is never boring. Working from home is a possibility or if you don't want to commute because of the weather. Management is generally flexible if you need some time for personal business. Coworkers are great. Perks like food and beer Fridays are ok - but unnecessary.

Cons

Management expects you as a rule to work at home in the evenings and on weekends. Assignments, goals, and expectations are not clear and consistently lead to surprises at review time . this seems to be the norm for senior level individual contributors. Despite suggestions of an open door policy critizing the way programs / projects are managed, complaints about managers, or other items are held against you. Expect that your comments will come around to haunt you either by a direct confrontation or in the form of limited projects. NetApp corp spends way to much time patting themselves on the back as a great place to work. Understand that NetApp is a public corporation out to make the bottom line. They have layoffs like everyone else and no one is immune - except management. I've never seen a manager at any level laid off -- despite having some that need to be. Management doesn't give employees a chance to switch departments prior to layoffs. Older employees seem to the top layoff candidates despite performance. They layoff just enough younger workers corporate wide to avoid discrimination charges. It seems clear that NetApp doesn't want anyone over 45 working for them. Lots and lots of managers and groups whose purpose seems unclear. Their functionality is never explained. Raises and stock options are scare and only given to the employees that receive the highest rating.

Pros

I have the privilege with working with some of the most talented individuals in the industry, given the challenging changing environment that we are in, migrating to the cloud. Pay and benefits are on par with the best in the industry.

Cons

In HW engineering, lack of the ability to advance. Company develops experts of certain portions of the position skill sets, and were not always able to fully utilize individual skill sets.
