Pros

If you want to work in management then you’ll be backed and supported as network rail is certainly a top heavy company.

Cons

If you want to work on the frontline, your T&C’s will be attacked, you’ll be under staffed, under trained, under appreciated and pressured to just make it work. You’ll have no family life, your health will suffer.

Pros

On the whole a great bunch of workmates. Strong trade union.

Cons

Hideous shift patterns that are only getting worse. Complete lack of respect for skilled & experienced track workers from middle & upper management. All the decent T&Cs are being eroded. Pay simply isn’t good enough for the amount of unsociable & detrimental to health shifts we work. Career opportunities depends who your mates & family members are.
