good pay for roles they understand (engineers, project managers) good benefits and pension if you play the game and tick the boxes you can get rapid promotion

Cons

impossible to actually make a difference here too much workplace politics waste a lot of time on pointless meetings Specialist expertise not recognised if its not obviously a railway skill People promoted way beyond their competence because their face fits, they tick a particular box or for other reasons unrelated to their work skills
