Pros

Flexible Working Final Salary Pension

Cons

Poor company culture - they give you the 'we care about you' talk and then do exactly the opposite Multiple reorganizations (expect to be involved in one every 2 years or so) Expected to work extra hours Lack of general leadership and guidance, which includes lack of company strategy, department strategy or personal objectives. This leads to confusion and competing priorities across different departments Pay is less competitive due to many years of pay freezes No free stuff as it's a public sector company HR are abysmal and actually hamper your effectiveness as a line manager. Constantly have to chase people Only get promoted if you are friends with the leadership team, it doesn't matter how good you are at your job. Leadership team is not very diverse, however they do throw in the token woman or ethnic minority every now and again There is a sense of fear and anxiety at work, due to poor leadership Lack of accountability across the organisation, easy to 'hide'

Pros

From a fixed term contract to a cross function role that lasted for 7 years. If you work hard enough and learn the business you can go far, the ability to embrace change stands you in good stead too. I had 6 1/4 wonderful years with the business in York and across the country

Cons

One of the Lead HR Business partners that joined the office made the last part of my career with NR absolute hell. A bully from start to finish, she joined with a venomous approach to anyone that knew more than her and worked at getting rid of all those that she didn't like. I was one of them. Recalled back from a secondment to do a job that wasn't my original position. I ended up resigning after many wonderfully enjoyable years.
