Pros

Good pension but you have to wait 5 years for it. Plenty of over time available if you're into that sort of thing.

Cons

Mainly night shifts and outside working. Lots of blame culture and full of people stuck in their ways. New people are seen as an inconvenience in my experience and too many contractors.

Pros

Gained an appreciation of how a national transport infrastructure company deals with day to day operation - both long term infrastructure projects and more immediate problems that come with the territory of operating the UK rail infrastructure.

Cons

The technical sophistication of the engineering systems wasn't as stimulating as those seen at my current engineering internship and university. I felt there were many inefficiencies with the structure of NR which frustrated me at times, but it is very challenging to run a company of this scale and nature in an efficient manner.
