Pros

I really like the people I work with, I find them all generally quite sharp and they inspire me to grow. The leadership team is well respected and has been in place for a long time now. The fact that it's privately owned is fantastic and I believe also promotes job security and better decision making. The 401k plan is unmatched, 15% of your comp is funded in your 401k every year, with no vesting period. The "lean" resource model provides no shortage of work/opportunities to fix things and make a difference and be noticed, The size of the firm, while difficult to learn and navigate at first, is manageable as it's not too large. Internal mobility is more encouraged now than ever before. They just lowered the threshold for eligibility to buy NB equity from SVP level to the VP level. High buy-in price though with stringent bad leaver terms.

Cons

Compensation seems far below what I've heard from others, with minimal raises each year that barely keep up with inflation, and an unclear and subjective path to promotion. Senior people don't leave which makes it challenging to rise through the ranks. I think it's a difficult place to build your career, but a great place to join if you are more senior. The lean resource model means there is always a lot on your plate, sometimes too much. No laptops or phones are provided by the firm, everyone is expected to use their personal equipment which is insane to me. Most are 3 days in the office right now, and they are starting to crack down and encouraging more in-office time. I prefer a more flexible schedule. Can be quite old-fashioned - heavy reliance on admins still, technology could use a lot of work, population skews old and white etc. Player/Coach model when it comes to managing - you are expected to do your full-time job while also managing. Also don't expect to manage anyone until you are an SVP. Parental leave policies are outdated and inequitable: primary care is 16 weeks, non-primary is only 4.

Pros

Strong senior leadership team that makes timely decisions to adapt to an evolving business landscape. Sound business capabilities with terrific investment strategies.

Cons

Antiquated technology systems which makes simple tasks very time consuming and convoluted. As a result, the hours are extremely long, poor work/life balance and the work tends to be far more production oriented. Difficult to introduction new ideas, analytics and processes. Many middle managers are ineffective as leaders and therefore micromanage. Lastly, compensation is on the lower end especially with all the extra hours that you have to put in.
