Pros

Great benefits, solid pension, and, depending on what level you are working at, consistent work. For people who find meaning and purpose in working in service to the public, this is an excellent place for you.

Cons

The higher up you are the worse the pay is comparative to the amount of work you do. The barriers of bureaucracy get in the way of the “do good” intentions of many.

Working for NYS provides great benefits and regular salary increases. All employees have opportunity for internal and external transfer and vested in retirement after 5 years. If you're comfortable just coming to work doing your job and going home, this is great work.

Cons

It can feel hard for some to deal with many layers of approval for some of the work that we do.
