Pros

*the people here are amazing - this is hands down the most welcoming group of folks I've worked with *lots of opportunities to create community with employee resource groups *$60/month gym reimbursement and one-time benefits like the $300 headphone reimbursement and $500 cell-phone reimbursement *management is fairly transparent - shares their board decks slide-for-slide with the whole company *equity is very valuable - Nextdoor is a unicorn and will soon be profitable

Cons

*LOTS of turnover in every department, especially at the executive level *PTO is accrued at only 3 weeks/year, which is pretty bad... some departments don't document it at all as a work-around, but others have to... WFH not encouraged *no commuter stipend *we don't have holidays like Veteran's Day, President's Day, etc. off, so if you're a parent, you have to take PTO to stay home with your kids *absolutely no focus on diversity at the company

Disappointing

Pros

Some talented and kind coworkers but more leaving every day.

Cons

Low morale, stock price tanking, poor wlb, high turnover, PIP culture, all anonymous questions at all hands because employees fear speaking up, no long term strategy or vision, messy product, no faith in SLT, no career growth, forced RTO including employees who were hired and told they would be remote, unsafe office location.

Pros

- I've been fortunate to collaborate with exceptional individual contributors (ICs). I appreciate the opportunity to work alongside such intelligent and kind colleagues during my time here. - The base pay is impressive. - The snacks provided at the San Francisco office are enjoyable, though not exceptional. - I've had positive interactions with several middle managers. - I had so much fun my first year here and we made amazing updates to the app. Everyone felt passionate about the purpose which was contagious, it really felt like we could create an alternative utility based social platform that is hard to feel on bigger platforms.

Cons

- The decision-making process at RTO is primarily in the hands of leadership, and while I understand and accept that to some extent, the aftermath of a recent decision and subsequent Q&A session was quite chaotic. The situation escalated quickly and became quite chaotic. An employee provided a well-phrased critique, only to have leadership turn the tables on them by accusing them of lacking kindness. It's disheartening to witness the use of official channels to publicly criticize an employee. This incident has further eroded the already fragile morale of numerous exhausted employees. - The upper management in the engineering and data sectors lacks the requisite expertise to effectively oversee an application of this magnitude, and their lack of understanding of ongoing matters exacerbates the issue. This sentiment is widely acknowledged and reflects poorly on the organization. - There is a notable absence of uniformity among the engineering departments, with makeshift solutions being devised for each new feature introduction, among other concerns. - Team composition is often skewed, with some teams consisting entirely of senior or staff members while others are predominantly junior. This frequently leads to suboptimal outcomes, especially given the demanding scale and deadlines we often face. - It's disheartening to observe the decline in the organization since I became a part of it. The initial year and a half was a period of great enjoyment for me. The culture, engineering practices, and the people were all highlights during that time, but unfortunately, these aspects have all seen a decline. Unless you really need a job, I'd look elsewhere for your general health and sanity.
