Pros

-Great starting pay- $10.45 as a base rate for a retail job is unheard of! -Plenty of things to learn -Employee discount -Flexible for PTO

Cons

-Almost feels like high school (drama and gossip) -the push for signing people up for credit/debit card accounts. So stressful!! You are almost looked down upon if you do not get any accounts -The mobile POS checkout is great for customers but there are not enough employees to cover

Pros

I was able to grow my career at Nordstrom with multiple IT opportunities.

Cons

Nordstrom IT is going through some major changes. They want to be industry standard and have decided that in order to do so, they needed to bring in a lot of new managers from other companies. The downfall with this is that the culture is getting lost and when you bring in managers from other companies that are light years behind of Nordstrom - you get some serious issues within the management ranks. Every manager is trying to prove that their way is better than the next manager's idea. Nordstrom IT has become so overly political.

It's too bad they leave bad apples in the mix.

Pros

Working in the corporate office, you hear from upper - upper management that they really do care about their employees. There are a lot of great benefits. Because it's such a large corporation, they have discounts offered for other services (your phone bill, everything in Pacific Place, etc.) It's a great name to have on your resume and the pay is pretty competitive to what is being offered elsewhere.

Cons

A con to being such a large corporation is that your co-workers can skate by and barely work, and you can have really bad management. If you repeatedly try to report management or co-worker issues in your department, there is a minuscule glimmer of hope that you will be supported and actually helped. Otherwise, if you feel something is fishy before you start working on a team, I would stay clear and find another one within the company. They also move at a glacial pace to solve problems both with business demands and personnel issues, which is why they can't compete with companies like Amazon that aren't afraid to try something new and learning from failing. The technology in the company is laughable. I honestly feel that working at this company set me back in my career because of the unqualified leadership that dictated my team and because I never learned anything ... except that you should never go to HR.
