Pros

The store is nice and the clothing is merchanised nicely. Nice styles and brands. 20% discount which isn't too bad. Most always in upscale malls. Pays better than most other retail jobs.Pleasant place to shop if you are a customer.

Cons

Do not work here if you think this is just another retail job, because it isn't. The hours are terrible, and if you are a closer you will most always be there at least 45 monutes to -an hour after you should have been out the door. Store won';t close on time- will remain open for any lingering customers, while you stand around and wait, which influences your productivity. In this place, it is all about numbers. This is an outside sales job withn a store. You are constantly made to get on the phone and call your customers, which are supposed to be in you "personal book". The thing about this is that customers are getting at least 2-3 phone calls from Nordstrom employees if they are in the personal book.. Annoying. If you have never worked in a commission environment-beware.Don't be too trusting with co-workers. Everyone here is out for themselves. Department mangers will steal sales because they have productivity goals to meet just like salepeople. They seem to focus on the negative, and if you have a great day and great sales they don't say a thing. Oh, but when your sales are down-(due to the economy, lack of traffic, or even the weather) they try to blame you and try to get you on the phone calling people. You are given unrealistic sales goals and they are HUGE on pre-sell. It's ridiculous. Oh, must mention the morning rallies. Bring ear plugs because you may go deaf. These rallies are a pep rally to get employees "psyched to sell" Blaring music and constant clapping using these annoying plastic clappers are the morning ritual.

Pros

If you sell well, they notice you and they will offer you promotions. They understand how to motivate and keep employees. They are friendly, understanding and they will know your name!!

Cons

Commission based sales environment is tough, especially in a bad economy. There is no compensation package in place to make it fair when the store is dead and you have no choice but to work your shift to the end (i.e. closing shift).
