Pros

The ability to create your own paycheck.

Cons

They ask you for too much, and don't pay enough in return. Expectations raise, pay and the amount of time you have stay the same.

Pros

Nordstrom is a company that promotes from within, understanding the Nordstrom culture is a valuble asset for growth within the company. Nordstrom has a good benefits program and gives back to employees when the company achieves success.

Cons

Nordstom has very high expectations of employees in leadership roles. It is expected to work long hard hours; this is an expectation if you want to persue a career with the company. The expectation is to work over 40 hours a week when in a management role. This is not very condusive to an active social life. It is typical for employees to be promoted based on relationships with in the company rather than hard work.

Pros

Nordstrom stems from a long line of tradition and the culture is unlike any other place. It's a great place to work your way up and be successful especially if you don't have a college degree. The company is continually growing with new stores opening every year.

Cons

Management training is lacking so it turns into a blind leading the blind type of situation. The company is not at all what it used to be and the constant restructures leave lots of people out of a job or in a demoted position. The salary is not all that competitive and lateral moves are considered promotions. There is a large salary gap between upper and middle management and opportunities for advancement seem to become more and more rare. There is no assistance for continued education and sick days are wrapped into your accrued vacation time (i.e. you have none).
