Pros
Easy to get a job because of constant turnover
Cons
Leadership does not care about nurse job satisfaction. More is constantly expected from nurses without increased pay. Currently on unit the nurse functions as a housekeeper, tech, secretary, and often phlebotomist. CONSTANTLY understaffed. The shift you think you will have a pleasant, fully staffed assignment, staffing will call and take staff for another unit. Charge nurses only care about their productivity, audits of measures that don’t actually improve patient care and outcomes. New nurses are trained to “document correctly” not provide actual patient care that reflects what is documented. Nurses cannot be blamed for poor patient care because there is not enough time to provide it and document according to expectations constantly being understaffed. Unsafe conditions! All new nurses because experienced nurses are leaving in droves and new grads are cheaper! Don’t forget to take your lunch break even though you have zero time and no one to cover your patients… & be sure to review your check, you might have been charged for a lunch break you never took!
