Pros

Countless opportunities to develop as a teaching professional. Talented and innovative colleagues on a dynamic urban campus. Motivated students and constantly improving facilities.

Cons

Poor academic management. Corporate approach to education. Insufficient support from HR. Questionable university financial investments in fossil fuels and alleged use of off-shore shell companies to avoid taxes.

Pros

Northeastern’s benefits are amazing—great health/dental, great vacation time and sick time, and if you don’t have a higher degree, the free master’s degree opportunity is amazing. Overall a great place to work—depending which college you get into within the university.

Cons

An Asst. Co-op Coordinator is essentially a salesman. You are going out into the field trying to develop new jobs and employer partnerships. At the end of the day, if you don’t have 100% student placement, you are not doing your job. Teaching and advising students is very minimal to what you are expected to do: develop jobs. If you are not bringing new jobs and accounts in, it is negative, which can prevent you from a raise and/or promotion. It can be very stressful and anxiety inducing. If a co-op coordinator can last longer than 2-3 years, that is an accomplishment.
