Pros

- Company culture is great, very open and encouraging, people get along well - very Midwestern (in a good way) - Employees are given access to senior-level management - Work-life balance is easily maintained

Cons

- Compensation levels seem to be lower than average, especially for entry-level positions - Work load is sometimes too light for entry-level positions, leaving employees with not enough to do to fill the day

Northern is a stable employer. Average benefits. Opportunities for promotion and growth for career for those who have very strong networking skills.

Cons

Below average compensation. Significantly slow growth of technology improvements. Nepotism can hinder the promotion and growth process of successful associates.

Pros

Northern Trust has some flexible work options. For certain employees. And depending on who your manager is and how much that person likes you. It's a stable place to work, but Rick Waddell was pretty fast to lay off employees, even before we had one bad quarter. Northern keeps shipping more and more jobs to Bangalore, India, where the workers are paid low wages. But, you get what you pay for. The quality of work coming out of the Bangalore ops centers is subpar, and I can see it harming the integrity of the company.

Cons

There is a serious issue with disrespect towards junior employees. They honestly believe it takes 8-10 years to "prove" yourself and that before you've reached that level of seniority, you're an idiot that doesn't know anything. It's no way to run the company, not in this economic environment when people have many different jobs throughout their lives. Northern keeps shipping more and more jobs to Bangalore, India, where the workers are paid low wages. But, you get what you pay for. The quality of work coming out of the Bangalore ops centers is sub par, and I can see it harming the integrity of the company.
