      Pros

      Global custodian with foot print around the world. Open to operating in many countries. Product offerings are a mile wide.

      Cons

      Compensation. Northern consistently places the burden of reduces expenses on the backs of employees. While in a low, tight interest rate environment, Northern placed, and rightly so, a very high priority on reducing costs. However, because by far the greatest costs at Northern are compensation and benefits, the only way to significantly reduce costs was through lowering growth in salaries/bonuses and reducing benefits which Northern has done. As a result, morale is probably at an all time low.

      Nice name on your resume.

      Cons

      It is hard to be successful at a job you were hired to do when the first two weeks on the job there was no training at all. The two days of training they provide is very poor and basic. If you can't get by on those two days, your manager contacts HR and alerts them they hired the wrong person. IT does a terrible job granting access to the software programs you need to do your job. It took me a month before I was given a phone number and it took a week to get a email address.

      Pros

      Work-life balance, not very demanding, ancient computer systems are finally starting to be addressed, good reputation even though it's based on staying out of trouble which is easy to do if you don't do much

      Cons

      Terrible management - just had another round of musical chairs guaranteeing that they don't know how to do their jobs, coasting on past, extremely political, expect to grow sales while cutting staff, no opportunity for advancement, low comp relative to the market and getting worse
