Pros
Very progressive thinking toward patient care. North Shore CEMS puts a good amount of trust in it;s paramedics, and as such we are able to operate with somewhat more freedom than other places I have worked. Also very generous amount of time off, benefits are fantastic, and pay is near the top of the field. In addition to regular income, they do matching contributions to 403(b), which adds up to quite a bit more pay, up to 5% on top of my contributions.
Cons
Only paid for 37.5 hours per week (I have never seen this before in the EMS field.) Also, though not really a downside, North Shore's dedication to excellence can make it a difficult place to work for people coming from a less demanding environment. They give us a lot, but they expect a lot back. Seems fair to me.
