Pros

Great People, Commissions unlimited depending on how good of a salesman you are, reap what you sow, bonus incentives, flexible schedule.

Cons

All commission, office culture should be more friendly. The upper management really make you believe northwestern mutual is the best company even though there are others just as good. You have to drink the kool-aid there to really want to work for them. In order to be successful you have to start off by bothering your friends and family members and potentially have them not answer your phone calls ever again.

Pros

Work/Life balance is a focus. In my division of IS most people work between 40-45 hours. Compared to other companies that is quite low.

Cons

If you are under the age of 40 this is not the place for you. The company moves and reacts to the industry VERY slowly. Employee base is quite old as the number of new hires out of college is greatly out done by the number of new hires with 10+ years of experience. Tough company to work for as a first job out of college.

Pros

You can make your own schedule. You will make as much money as you want depending on how hard you work. The work environment is really supportive and full-time representatives are very helpful. The company puts an emphasis on full-time representatives helping out interns and the full-time reps are receptive and really enjoy working with interns. The company's annual meeting is definitely a good time too.

Cons

As an intern, it is pretty difficult to find a lot of quality leads. Where full time representatives are able to use people within their social circles to find prospective business, most interns have other college students in the social circles. The majority of college students don't have the motivation or financial means for insurance purchases. There's not really any risk for NMFN because they basically ensure business from your family and have very little financial obligation from you.
