Wonderful Experience at Nuveen

Pros

Nuveen's benefit package is second to none, and they focus heavily on fostering a strong work-life balance for their employees. The training offered is top-notch. I assumed my position with minimal experience, and with the help of a strong company infrastructure and an excellent team, I was able to excel in the position quickly. The company culture is strong, as Nuveen does a wonderful job communicating its mission and goals throughout the company. I have very positive memories of my experience at Nuveen, and maintain close friendships with many of the wonderful, high-achieving people I was fortunate enough to work with.

Cons

The were only two downsides that come to mind. First, when positions are vacated, or the need for extra help on a team is identified, the process to fill that need can often be lengthy, leading to a heavy workload for current members of that team. Second, Nuveen could do a better job helping its employees to visualize a development path for how they can grow within the company. Many young employees found that their best option to advance their careers was to move to other companies. Nuveen could probably benefit from retaining and nurturing this talent.

Pros

Good place to start your career if you want to work in asset management. Specifically, the sales and marketing or portfolio management departments. If your work is not tied directly with finance, then look elsewhere since this is a finance company.

Cons

Very political. Work overload. A subsidiary. Your career progression is highly dependent on the group and function that you are in. IT is not their strength.
