Pros

Compensation is the only Pro. While fellows don't receive benefits, the pay is significantly better than other comparable positions.

Cons

Contractors in the military, specifically in Public Health Command are treated very poorly. The ORISE fellowship is misused. We are treated like regular contractors, not like individuals in educational fellowships. Job duties include administrative duties and the organization does not allow for training opportunities or conference attendance. I would not recommend taking an ORISE fellowship for anyone who will get placed in the military.

Pros

Great people, great health benefits, unlimited sick time, 1 floating holiday, 1 diversity day per year, accrual sick and vacation days. Work from home program. Able to work 9 hours per day and have Fridays off every other week.

Cons

Management do not care about the employees. Managers/Directors lack management training Workplace bullying in full affect. Favoritism, and lack of respect. Too many meetings without result. Nepotism is alive and well. Everyone is married to each other or related in some way. Many employees with tenure are afraid to speak about poor morale because of fear of reprisal. Would not recommend anyone to work there.

Pros

Stable work environment, good purpose, good work schedules, stable budgets, good facilities, interesting relationship with DOE and ORNL, good overall employee morale, good base of lower level workers, fair compenstation but they try to equalize everyone supports a lack of performance, good work/life balance.

Cons

Locked in old management styles and even though willing, they are unable to change in order to meet the needs of the changing world, terrible recognition and feedback for employees, lack of professional respect and no real fairness, poor communication, poor chance of future career growth unless your plan for growth is 30 years from now.
