Joined the company in February as a payroll specialist to assist in processing payroll for concessions at several airports. Seemed like a good opportunity for advancement from a respectable company with hardworking individuals, but luck wasn't on my side. A week before I joined, they also hired a new payroll manager who couldn't be bothered to deal with someone new on their new team. Instead, I was barely trained by the other payroll specialist who has been doing payroll for only a year and through a difficult language barrier since English wasn't their first language. I've been in payroll processing since 2018 so although it's not new for me, if you know anything about payroll, the platforms and the way companies operate with it can differ. Anyway, through numerous badgering of the payroll team to try and understand everything pertaining to my job, they would begrudgingly instruct me here and there. It felt like me simply trying to do my job correctly was a burden on them, especially the new manager. Then after a month of working, i was called into a meeting room and terminated due to my performance. What exactly was wrong with my performance? The manager said I made an error on one report which I subsequently fixed the next day during the previous week. I lost my job due to lack of training and an unqualified manager. I can't help but think there was a deeper meaning to the way i was put in and spit out for this role, but that won't solve anything. I'll take responsibility and acknowledge the mistake and move on from this since that's the only thing to do at this point. Now I see there is a posting for a new payroll specialist to replace me, so I thought I'd leave any future hopefuls this note. Whoever is joining this company, especially on the payroll team, good luck but don't get too comfortable. Trust me.
