Pros

Being a consultant is very different than working at a large or medium sized corporation: It isn't for everyone. You have to be ok with working on different projects (sometimes at the same time). You have to be ok with a certain level of uncertainty. You have to be ok with not waiting for someone to give you micro-level directions. You need a lot of self-motivation. For the right engineer, it is liberating and empowering. For the wrong type, it can feel chaotic and disorganized. There's always new things to work on at OCI. If you want to try something new or transition into a different part of technology, they will help find a way for you to do it. But you have to follow through on your end. It isn't magic, you have to put in the work and invest in yourself as well. If you want to double-down and go deep into one technical area, they'll help you do that as well. There's so many extremely talented people here, it is pretty remarkable given the size of the organization. There seem seems to be a SME level expert in just about everything that you can go ask for help or advice. The people really do care and try their best. This goes for the engineers and all the non-technical people like PMs, BAs and administrative staff. The leadership team has made a commitment to making a place to work that is open to all. The result is a culture that doesn't tolerate toxic people. You can have healthy disagreements without toxicity. The PTO policy takes some time to get used to but is pretty good once you understand how it works.

Cons

Compensation is decent but benefits need to be improved. Employer-funded training classes need to be improved. Would love to see more events designed to bring more employees together to build connections and relationships. Remote work due to COVID made it tough to get together, of course, but maybe more virtual events. OCI has a relatively flat leadership hierarchy. For engineers who want to just be great engineers, it doesn't matter, and can actually be a good thing. For those that have a desire to move into management, there are few opportunities.

Pros

Good company and culture. Compensation was fair, but I got complaints from management that salary came in high so its hard to give bonuses. Brilliant people work there, work time is flexible.

Cons

Repetitive projects, sales was slow. Lots of small projects. Eventually got laid off because of loss of revenue.

Pros

Good people except for management, most people can work from home

Cons

Owner's daughter has no idea what she's doing and talks to you like your an idiot; CEO is arrogant and comes across as a wannabe motivational speaker; seems like management just want to set the company up to be sold.

Pros

There are so many reasons I love working here. Always opportunities for growth, culture of people who demonstrate excellence, critical thought, and professionalism, access to leadership without feeling 'political', innovative technologies and challenging projects, profit sharing, unlimited vacation, the list goes on

Cons

There are cons with any job I guess. When you work with smart people, you should be prepared to be challenged from time to time.

Thank you for taking the time to rate OCI and provide us feedback. While we don't currently have a Marketing Coordinator employed here, we very much want to hear about the experiences of both past and current employees. If you are still employed with us, I would invite you to set up some time so that we can discuss your concerns. If you are not comfortable with that, you could also share your thoughts with us via our anonymous feedback form on the internal site. That can be found under "Culture". We also perform regular team engagement surveys (one of which is running now), and share and review those results with our group leads in an effort to look for opportunities to improve as an organization. So, that is another excellent opportunity to share your feelings and perspectives. Actionable feedback is how we drive improvement. So, the more detail the better! As for not valuing our employees, I truly hope that none of our current team members feel this way. If that is the case, please reach out to your PDL, your manager, or myself. While no organization can claim to leave everyone feeling valued at all times, we make intentional efforts to create opportunities for conversations when people are feeling this way. I hope that you will take the opportunity to let us know what we can do to improve our relationship. All my best, and I hope to hear from you soon. -- Michael Kimberlin Director of Organizational Development YOUR OUTCOMES ENGINEERED™ tel (314) 579-0066 ext 216 objectcomputing.com

Pros

Competitive salaries, nice work spaces mediocre benefits

Cons

Terrible Senior management leadership, except for the founder - he's a class act. During my time there I saw so many people come and go. It's a revolving door and I chalk that up to poor management. They give people management roles that haven't managed a single thing in their life. They promise work life balance but that is a lie. All they care about is how much work you can do and what it means for lining their pocket. I believe the founder once had a great vision, that seems to have become a thing of the past. The recruiting department is a nightmare to work with and I am not even going to get started on all the different levels of management that you have to deal with. It's a complete cluster. They have a lot of employees that have been there for multiple years and that's a club they don't let many people in. If you aren't willing to lie and cheat the system, you'll never be apart of this elite club. No amount of money could ever be enough to work there again. If you value your sanity, do not take a job here. Because that's just it, a job....not a career.

Thank you for taking your time to review OCI on glassdoor. We value your feedback as it helps us know what we are doing well and where we need to get better. Your review makes it clear that your experience working here was not a satisfactory one, which means we have something to learn from your feedback. While a nice workspace and competitive salaries are certainly a part of what we hope to offer, that is not sufficient. We strive to offer our team members competitive benefits and an environment that allows for their growth and development. We have a strong retention rate and are working hard to provide a long-term career path for our team. In your case, it seems that we fell short of our goals. While I am not sure when you left our organization, since the beginning of the year we've implemented a number of changes to our benefits package, including expanded insurance options. We've also implemented a responsible use PTO policy that allows our team to take the vacation time that they need. Hopefully, these changes show that we are constantly working on bettering ourselves to fit the needs of our team members. The majority of our team members have indicated that they are happy to be a part of our team. Our team members' responses to a recently performed engagement survey resulted in OCI being named as one of St. Louis' top workplaces by the St. Louis Post Dispatch. While that does not in any way invalidate your experience, it gives me hope that your experience is not the "norm" for our team. Nevertheless, your experience, and every individual’s experience at OCI is important to us and we would like to learn more. Specifically, we would like to speak to you more directly about some of your unsatisfactory experiences with our recruiting department and your negative feelings about management. If you are willing and have the time, I would love for you to reach out to me so that I can understand your perspective more fully. You can speak to me directly at the number below. I would be happy to keep your identity confidential or, if you would like to take steps to keep anonymous, that would be fine as well. I look forward to continuing this conversation and hearing about these issues or any other thoughts you may have about your time working at OCI. Best of luck to you moving forward. -- Michael Kimberlin Director of Organizational Development Disruptive solutions for a connected world.™ tel (314) 579-0066 ext 216 objectcomputing.com

Pros

Excellent engineers, mentorship, a wealth of knowledge, small company feel (previously)

Cons

The company went through rapid changes with a new CEO as part of the response to covid. They hired far too many people instead of utilizing the people who already worked there and once the tech boom after covid ended, two rounds of layoffs happened.

Pros

An overall great group of people who understand how to work effectively with a remote distributed team. Their process is streamlined and they hold teams to a high standard. Compensation and benefits are excellent.

Cons

As is inevitable with a company of their size that needs to staff up new projects quickly, a handful of the engineers I interacted with were less than stellar. To the credit of the company's process and standards, those team members did not last, but watching them struggle while they were there was painful.
