It's is very rare in retail to have your effort and hard work recognized and rewarded. I am very pleased with the management and how supportive and encouraging they are. Ocean State Job Lot is a great place to make a career in the retail industry.

Cons

When you come to Ocean State Job Lot to work, be prepared to work and hustle. It is only a con for individuals who go to work with no intentions of working.

Pros

Great Benefit package. Coworkers are fun and all in the same boat. Corporate HR responsive and supportive.

Cons

Huge lack of structure even with latest ASL of the Future plan. It’s good in theory but no resources to implement and not enough hours given to stores to staff all the positions it requires to run by the flowchart. ASLs told to manage not do the work themselves then told they don’t need dept managers. That they can do the work themselves. Unprofessional managers, DMs and RMs criticize management to hourly associates and other managers and assistants and don’t address with “offending” manager. No positive feedback, just criticism.

Pros

The only pro I can say was that all employees were allowed a ten minute break regardless of how short the shift was. Longer shifts (5+ hours) had a lunch break in addition to the ten minute break.

Cons

Management was very disorganized and slow.
