Pros

good pay, easy to follow FDA guidelines

Cons

Quality management controls your jobs, if you write something and quality interprets it as something else, guess what you getting pulled into office. Your getting managed by quality all the time, and quality is not medical they do not hold a RN EMT Paramedic license. They do not know medical terminology. Your constantly in the borderline of getting fired for it. Followed by being talked down to from quality management for minor errors which once you type something in it is in the system you can not go back and edit which means that typo you had today 3 hours ago is there and quality will find an excuse to talk down to you by saying "do you not feel confident in your job" instead of just "figure out what you done wrong in this chart". Quality overshadows all aspects of the job and constantly talks down to every employee over little mistakes. NO PART TIME! NO WORK LIFE BALANCE!

Pros

The donors are why I continued to return. It is a business, of course, and although you are responsible for many medical and ethical responsibilities it is not that you will NOT smile occasionally or even guffaw.

Cons

Quality Assurance periodically evaluates your physical examinations. Yes, QA is responsible for this evaluation. Physicians were replaced by Physician Substitutes (financial). The Physician will evaluate you periodically. It is quite intimidating for a NON MEDICAL, QA to evaluate your performance. They know NOTHING about a physical examination. You will definitely be left alone and expected to perform the physical as FAST as possible, because phlebotomists, and etc are tired and ready to go home. When screening a potential donor, you must be careful and not be rushed. It costs time and money if they are eventually rejected because you were informed to 'speed it up.' That is the reason there should always be at least two licensed personnel, daily. Management is not helpful, in my opinion, when help is needed. Some are, but reluctantly. That is the reason attrition is paramount. From episodic to sustained attacks causing morale/respect to wear you out physically and mentally.

Pros

Promotional Opportunities, bonuses, great benefits

Cons

Your best is never enough. Some of the RD’s and up don’t care that you are understaffed, don’t care that you’re emotionally drained, all they want is the liters. It wasn’t always that way, but now the company is trying to make up for the lost with COVID it’s the focus. It’s a lot of responsibility to be a Center Director and I truly cared about my staff. My RD told me that I mothered them too much, I have to take my emotions out of it. I understood that it was a business, but Plasma is difficult and these adults aren’t my kids and I’m not a drill Sargent. You’re going to be understaffed a lot because you can only hire so many people to keep your HPD under control. I loved what I did, I loved my staff and getting to know the donors but I mostly loved that we were saving lives but when work starts to affect your health to the point that you’re spending thousands of dollars only to find out it’s stress I have to make some changes!!!! When I asked to go on FMLA, my RD told me to wait just take a day off until after my procedure. That’s when I knew it was time to go. So if you’re looking to be successful with your career AND have a life outside of the center GOOD LUCK. This is a great place to work if you’re emotionless and just focused on a grind n no life.
