Okta is a well-known SaaS vendor with a strong market presence, but its journey has been marked by challenges, particularly during the integration of Auth0. The acquisition was fraught with issues, as Okta’s traditional sales methodology clashed with the developer-centric approach that had driven Auth0’s success. Marketing efforts targeting developers—key influencers for Auth0’s adoption—were insufficient, further hindering its potential. Additionally, commercial and technical synergies between the two products proved difficult to identify, creating integration challenges that affected both teams and customers. Leadership changes at various levels added to the instability, with inconsistent strategies impacting execution. Local leadership, in particular, was limited to enforcing global directives, leaving little room for regional innovation. As market conditions worsened, overstaffing became apparent, leading to restructuring and layoffs that disrupted the organizational balance. These challenges highlighted the difficulties of navigating growth and integration in the competitive SaaS industry.

An incredible amount of regrettable turnover across all business functions, replaced by very average dropouts from similarly tired former high-growth cloud companies. * Currency these days is an ability to never seem disagreeable while never actually making a decision on anything, a trait mastered especially by all of the recent hires from Salesforce. * A complete revamp of the GTM motion has been introduced with no detail at all, accompanied by a plea to "Trust Us!" by people who have not done a thing to earn that trust. * "Town Halls" and "Ask Me Anything" are hijacked by political animals. Recently, the CEO was about to give an honest answer about our Gartner ratings when one of his lieutenants (a cartoonish climber right out of the script of a "Silicon Valley" episode) leapt in to save the day with some vapid, legal-approved, no-substance pablum. Talk about treating your people like children.
