Pros

Required good training and offered additional training as needed. Non-traditional work hours (including over night and weekend shifts) if available.

Cons

Supervisor difficult to work with and not accountable to anyone. Put her work onto us and then sat in the office and did nothing. Pay did not match responsibility.

Pros

clients are great to work with and there is a new owner who is investing in the company (instead of the previous owner who was letting the homes fall apart). I haven't personally met the new owner since I am very part time but I have heard great things. My direct supervisor is also amazing and I can tell that training from the company has helped her continue to develop interpersonal skills.

Cons

the company will hire just about anyone so there can be a lot of turn over and I have worked with some very questionable people. Also, like most work in group homes, the pay is pretty bad. It is a great job for students or supplemental income but no one can survive on the limited pay afforded to people in this field

Pros

Flexible schedules! You can find shifts to accommodate whatever is going on in your life, even getting paid for sleep overnights. Take pride in what you do because as a DSP you are on the front line in making positive impacts for the lives of vulnerable adults.

Cons

Benefits are nearly non-existent, especially for part time workers. I can't understand why caregivers are not given sick time or PTO. We shouldn't be coming to work sick, but some can't afford to take a day without pay and it can be hard to find subs. A lot will depend on the competency of your house supervisor.
