Pros

Software engineers get to use the latest technologies.

Cons

Management is forced to rate employee performance on a bell curve and the low 20 to 30% are layed-off. This works ok once or twice…. But when there continuous quarterly layoffs… after 6+ quarters of layoffs.. all that are left are high performing engineers… yet Management is still required to rate 30% those remaining engineers as underperforming… even if those remaining engineers are amazing engineers. I would rather just be told I am getting layed-off for business reasons rather than insult my performance. This makes managers sick to have to rate people like that… and overall moral is low knowing that regardless of how hard you work, any day you or another teammate will be gone… because that is how they do it…. They cut you off and you can’t even say goodbye.
