Pros

Many people are working hard and just trying to do the best they can. The challenges are with the leadership, the organizational strategy, and the business climate that dictates profits over people - NOT the front line and mid level people that are working hard and trying to build a career here.

Cons

1. The company grows through acquisition. Both the acquired and legacy employees live in a constant state of fear of layoffs. And, for good reason. The cuts are pretty regular. Leadership makes false assurances. Individuals work tirelessly and then are asked to leave with little notice and a disrespectful severance amount. 2. The amount of undercutting, finger pointing and lack of cohesive organizational direction makes this a really difficult place to work. 3. Talented individuals do not stay here long. If you are looking to advance and grow your career, you may be given a position, but it will require doing the job of 2 or 3 people as you pick up work for others that have been let go. If you have a choice (other offers, etc.) I would not choose to come here. I know many end up here because of the limited options in Waterloo. I was told by a colleague to keep my 'head down' so no one would notice me! Unfortunately, the issues that I mention here are not limited to the Waterloo location. I interacted with people across the globe and found similar sentiments. Exhaustion. Fear. Anger. Disappointment. Betrayal. I hope your experience is different! For me, it was honestly the worst career experience I ever had.

Pros

Great co-workers and immediate manager

Cons

I was part of an amazing company which got acquired by OpenText after the acquisition things started to get bad. (I am specifically referring to the Customer Support Organization of this company). Large layoffs of highly skilled long tenured loyal technical employees with zero notice and no opportunity to move internally. Below industry standards for pay, poor 401K match, no stock options, long hours, limited PTO, Poor work/life balance. If you are part of an acquisition you are better off looking elsewhere before you are let go.
