Great Potential Squandered

Pros

Optiv attracts great people, this is a great place to get lots of experience in security, and you get to network with technology partners, which you’ll need when it’s time to find a new job.

Cons

Management values the Strategic Account Reps but the Enterprise and Commercial reps are just cogs in the machine. Management is under intense pressure to deliver an exit for KKR and while there is talk of an IPO, it’s behind schedule, so it’s not a great environment. You don’t hear about the layoffs but they’re happening. Again and again. And there’s no severance, so you just get cut from the team and out you go. Loyalty only goes one way. If you go to work here be in it for yourself because despite what they may say, the management team doesn’t care about anyone but themselves.

Pros

Resilient to the pandemic recession

Cons

The health insurance at Optiv has always been subpar especially when compared to the amazing plans at competitors like WWT. It's an expensive high deductable plan that leaves employees on the hook for 10's of thousands of dollars a year in premiums and deductibles while failing to cover things like Autism Therapy. This year, however, Optiv decided to take it a step further and conduct an audit of all dependents in an effort to throw children off their health plan. What an awful tone-deaf way to save a buck during a global pandemic! Optiv want's to be an employer of choice but it's hard to choose a company that uses a global pandemic as an excuse to target children's health coverage and defers cost of living raises, even though the company remains financially on target.

Don’t join the Billing team

Pros

Work from home is an option but only if your supervisor allows it. In my experience, only those that are favored on the team get work from home without a fight.

Cons

Managers are horrible. Micromanage, play favoritism within teams, don’t take coaching well, and treat employees horribly based on their personal opinions about people. Pay is very low and it is well known in the company that the Billing department makes very little compared to everyone else. There is no growth within the department and the raises shouldn’t even count as a raise.
