Pros

Oracle have somehow managed to acquire great engineers that despite the lack of encouragement from the top tries to do their best. The projects are challenging!

Cons

If you think you need a computer to do your job you are wrong, equipping an engineer with a 3-4 old computer is not uncommon. Productivity is never measured, quality is never measured.

Pros

Highly profitable and stable Good salary -- average for Silicon Valley Good benefits -- probably below average for Silicon Valley

Cons

Extremely bureaucratic -- all decisions are made at top levels of the company Can't get hardware -- many developers have resorted to buying their own hardware to replace 4 year old laptops/desktops New ideas and approaches are actively discouraged Engineering is not valued -- developers are purely an expense and drag on profitability
