Pros

-Benefits (health insurance, company facilities) are excellent -Great work/life balance -Great collegial, cordial, friendly environments -If you land in a great org, it's important to stay there because bad ones abound -Oracle is big on telecommuting -Very little "big-brother" mentality from the corporate level -Walks the walk on diversity in the workplace

Cons

-Outrageous levels of worthless management (3-4 vp's deep in some places) -Non-competitive salaries and COLA, even if you are a rock star -Promotions happening regularly in management, extremely rare among individual contributors -In some orgs, extreme micromanagement -Many US-side headcount replaced by multiple bodies in India

Pros

Oracle is "comfortable", and probably a reasonable place to work if you enjoy a more rigid and straightforward environment.

Cons

Oracle has become so large that they are incapable of fostering innovation within the company. They have transitioned into the standard "acquire and assemble" mentality of large companies faced with this problem. The result is an environment where engineers are not valued for their ideas or ability to drive innovation, but rather viewed as replaceable cogs in a ruthless business machine. Management makes broad decisions based on business metrics without understanding the technical challenges, and prevents individual engineers from having a say in the direction of the product or company. Support organizations, from recruiting to HR to IT, intrinsically suppress individuality and culture to create a monotonous business-focused monoculture.

Pros

One of the fastest growing companies with a aggressive management strategy. Great work experience. It is company that can provide a lot of opportunities to learn and build ones skills.

Cons

Large company and one can be lost. At times one needs to be self motivated to find a place and path to align and grow.
