Pros

(Mostly) fun people to work with Easy work - repetitive Work/life balance

Cons

Oracle doesn't care at all about morale - as a result a lot of the company is unhappy and looking. Turnover has been high, and will only get worse. Many key employees are leaving/have already left. They'll ask you to take more and more work on, but you'll see nothing in return. No promotion/raise for ANYONE, Oracle has taken snacks and the holiday party away. They've also forced PTO for all employees, where we must take our own vacation time during a specified period. This affects the bottom line, which impacts stocks, which fuels CEOs bonuses. They saw a huge increase, all employees saw nothing. Management is flustered. Take care of your employees, and they'll take care of you.

Pros

Good stepping stone for furthering your career. It's a stamp on your resume and a right of passage many people in the tech world have to go through. Good learning experience. The people.

Cons

First of all, they don't understand how to keep good talent. It's literally impossible to get a promotion or a pay raise. They don't even do cost of living raises. If you want to work there, keep in mind it's just a stepping stone...if you like working there and want a promotion or raise, you will have to leave for awhile to get the money you want and then go back. That's how most people get promotions there. It's the culture. Actually working there is nearly impossible because of the outdated technology and processes. Employees spend most of their time trying to navigate and learn the complicated systems. If they would use some of the new software they've acquired they might be better off. Proof that their systems are outdated: I've been gone for more than 3 months and I still can't figured out how to get my final expense report paid for! I'm about ready to just pay it myself. It's so frustrating. However, even if the technology was used properly, management would prevent any sort of easy experience for employees. There are so many layers beyond layers of managers, it's hard to keep it straight. They promote people into management, not based off of their leadership skills but based off of their numbers. It doesn't matter if someone has leadership skills AT ALL to be a manager there. They practice an all carrot and no stick sort of leadership at Oracle. I would say those are the top 3 cons but I could keep going...

Pros

Every organization operates differently, like their own self contained company within a company with a specific charter on how that organization fits into the overall corporation. So camaraderie can be different depending on what group you fall into. Salary is competitive, but negotiate high during the hiring process as there are NO raises, or cost of living increases... That's probably why there is a steady revolving door with Generation X'ers coming then going, and even faster for Generation Y'ers as this is their foot in the door and then off to greener more diverse pastures within two years, or as soon as they go through the 'annual review' process to find out that no raises are given. Big pro I'd say is they advocate telecommuting, in fact they encourage it, unless you are in a job that requires clearances you can expect to work from home with a company provided laptop and VOIP phone. Also a nominal stipend to cover your broadband expenses at home, and you can have your cell phone ported to the company plan to not have to worry about that bill again.

Cons

Benefits package is fairly competitive, though its price keeps increasing year after year while your salary does not. Training, too much elearning and too little classroom based learning to spin you up on what you need to do. You are hired and put right into the fire, either learn quick, or burn just a quickly. If you deviate from the Oracle ecosphere in training desires those plans will be squashed by management generally. Salary, you are going to make that amount the rest of your career with Oracle, so come in capped out and comfortable with that or be prepared for disappointment. No company functions, not even local division holiday parties or soirees to get to know your group or team that you work with. Co-CEO's has dysfunction written all over it, Mark Hurd is all about cost cutting, so expect more of the few benefits you have to be cut.
