I was a former Sun employee and was used to being encouraged to think for myself and come up with "out-of-the-box" solutions. At Oracle, it's more of a "when we want you're opinion, we'll give it to you" attitude. They seem to hand out titles instead of salaries; I've never seen so many directors with one or two (on in some cases no) direct reports and so little responsibility. HUGE differences between the amount of responsibility and expertise required of a manager or director at Sun vs. Oracle. Maybe it's the frequent acquisitions and sheer number of employees, but I really don't feel they value their employees as individuals.
