Pros

stable job; safe company; great for lifers It's great for the H1B worker sticking by to earn his green card - Oracle is very good with sponsoring for immigration, in return, they own you for the 3-4 years it takes to get it done.

Cons

no career progression; stupid politics; people not motivated. Oracle is the land of the walking dead employees. Pay is low by Silicon Valley standards and the work is monotonous. In general you require a heavy dose of politics to get anything done or promoted. People are largely unmotivated except when it comes to positioning themselves to benefit from the annual restructuring - knives come out relatively quickly then.

Pros

With all the companies that Oracle has brought over the last 4 years you have access to new technology. Training in these newer technologies is hit or miss as the ability to attend training is predicated as anywhere on your work load and the ability to travel to obtain the training. Oracle does have an extensive online library of training options that are available to all. The benefits are probably the best I have ever had. Standard - 401K and other Benefits. Heath care benefits are very impressive and is one of the major reason some people say they stay with Oracle.

Cons

Management is too worried about their job and their buddy’s jobs to provide the type of management to make this company what it should be. Big slow lumbering giant with to many programs to provide the allusion that things are progressing. With all big corporations a look back at these programs eventual leave a trail similar to discarded chicken bones as you drive out of the drive in at the end of the night. It filled you up but was it good for you? They need to spend less time and money on worthless programs and more on the take home pay of performers. The review and subsequent pay increases are a joke and no one takes them seriously. Get what you can when you get in because odds are that is all that you will see.
