Pros

Can do innovative work in certain groups. Some amazing talent still works at Oracle. Some product groups are at the leading edge of technology.

Cons

Fast degenerating into a bureaucracy. Politics rules, competence is much discounted. Resembles the worst of IBM and CA at times. Management for the most part is a blend of willful ignorance and blissful incompetence. The more one sucks up the higher they progress. Is more like a retirement community where the salary is your retiral benefit.

Pros

Oracle is a large company with different ways to grow your career and steer the direction. It is the large gorilla in the database field so you can guarantee that you'll work with other companies and try to duplicate what they are doing or later see that company absorbed by Oracle. The best thing is seeing new technology as many companies want to partner with Oracle to leverage their market share and capabilities.

Cons

Oracle is a very competitive company, from the inside. Different groups will compete to develop similar projects using various programming methods. YOu can argue whether this is productive or counterproductive.

Pros

Oracle benefits are pretty good relatively to other companies. Gym is excellent with heated outdoor swimming pool and towels. The gym is cleaner than most commercial ones. The cafeteria food is better than average. Relocation benefits are excellent. If you don't have a degree, I believe Oracle pays for you degree if you can get it approved somehow.

Cons

Management treats the engineers like disposable workers. The work is boring. The environment is very political. Oracle also tend to layoff its own workers in favor of the workers gained from large acquisitions. At least that was the case with Peoplesoft acquisition.
