Pros

The colleagues are some of the brightest and friendliest I've known Most of the teams are populated with competent visionaries who feel stuck Oracle proper is a great company Accelerators are in place if quotas are exceeded, so compensation is exceptional

Cons

All Sales teams are led by Product People No Sales Strategy Sales professionals with credentials and experience are expected to be relationship order takers. "Bro" Culture. Most women feel as if we walked into a Frat house and never left Leadership at the top is not respected No one seems to care about Customer Experience or listening to any voice which did not come from a legacy /DLX employee

Pros

-- Oracle is profitable -- Database software teams are innovative -- Oracle is still THE industry leader in database software -- Oracle medical benefits are OK, though pricey (probably even with other co's)

Cons

-- At Oracle, it's all about upper management bonuses. There is little concern about employee compensation -- Oracle gives "just "enough" in salary and stock to be somewhat competitive, but bonuses are HIGHLY arbitrary. Upper mgmt completely withheld bonuses from one division for years because its revenues weren't growing, while telling the sales force (in another organization) NOT to sell that division's products. Even if you DO get a bonus, you don't know what it "means", because you don't know what others at your level received. -- Oracle has been unwilling to give engineers the tools to do their jobs well. They can only get year-old laptop (or desktop) models, can't get large hi-res screens, and (except in one "special" org) are forbidden to order Macs. Many employees have spent $2500 out of their own pockets for a Mac, and others have spent hundreds in order to get a good hi-res monitor. (though if you're ever in a meeting of VP's, almost *all* of them have Macs) -- Oracle 401(k) matching is poor ... I think it's 100% match up to 3% of salary, then only 50% up to 6% of salary. So total match maxes out at 4.5% of salary. -- Oracle overwhelmingly likes to hire new college grads, then let them gain experience at Oracle. It only seems to gain experienced staff through acquisitions.

Decent Place to Work

Pros

flexible hours/work from home schedule nice collaborative atmosphere free drinks affordable Cafe food nice fitness center, with onsite trainer access to lots of training benefits are competitive and comparable. starting pay is decent travel accommodations are better than others, with the ability to pick your own flights, hotel and rental cars corporate cell phone plans available self service environment makes things quick and easy

Cons

you will read this a lot. But pay raises stink. If you get one, it's minuscule. At most companies, you can negotiate a salary bump based on performance. At Oracle, good performance is only enough to keep your job. If you interview somewhere else and get an offer, don't expect Oracle to match it. They will wish you luck, and send you on your way. Doesn't matter how much they invested in your training, or how much it will cost them to lose you. I have seen them let very talented individuals walk away for a couple thousand dollars a year. In my sector, there is no bonus structure. What I'm making now, I will most likely be making in 5 years.
