Pros

There are some really passionate people who work hard, are intelligent and are deliberate about what they do. You are drawn to Metro because of the mission-driven work. The coworkers who believe that their work contributes to making the region great are the go-getters who go the extra mile in their role. If you are lucky (or connected enough) to secure a position at Metro, it is a union shop so you are set for life unless you mess up really bad. Metro is committed to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and has dedicated significant resources to effect policy changes across the entire organization. Some departments are making progress while others are woefully underrepresented with people of color.

Cons

Alongside the hard workers are the complacent ones with questionable work ethics. Some position descriptions are overglorified to justify the high salary and there are too many redundant management positions. Support and analyst level staff are underpaid when one considers their workload and responsibilities compared with the higher line positions. You scratch your head wondering how much work is getting done when you consistently hear staff having extended personal discussions or taking really long lunch breaks. While the slackers are very likeable coworkers, you somehow feel cheated that your tax money pays for their high salaries.

Pros

The agency is going through many changes - though I would imagine it does. Big focus on diversity, equity and inclusion, with funding to back up policy initiatives. Very good well intentioned colleagues.

Cons

Still a huge bureacracy and things can take awhile, and some things don't make intuitive sense. Some people are stuck in the mud.
