Pros

In desperate need of any position

Cons

Management assured me that I would not be in contact with COVID positive patients due to my home situation, and basically lied, making me help out in other departments where I was not hired. I also was not properly trained, and when I confronted her with this, she scoffed and said “there isn’t much to it”, with no regard with how I feel caring for patients on my own.

Pros

Decent insurance benefits, matches some retirement contributions, decent PTO, and had tuition reimbursement when I left. Pay is average for the area, but as always it’s never enough for the work they ask you to do or the change in cost of living across Central Florida. The organization is large and is the lesser of two healthcare evils in the area. They are involved in the community they serve and frequently sponsor health and non-health related events. They care about providing cutting edge and research based care to their community. Most team members are friendly and you can build long lasting relationships with them. Just switched to EPIC charting system.

Cons

I’ve had managers here who didn’t support or help with career advancement, even when it would involve staying within the organization. The hospitals in this organization are chronically short staffed for every position. Recently the organization made drastic changes to “help” with time and attendance (aka made it easier to fire people if they’re late or have to call in sick) following covid and staffing shortages - which really just made more people leave and left remaining staff even more short handed. Organization pulled a lot of shady stuff to fire people following covid when they were trying to cut costs (they looked back in some peoples files 7 years for things). Always asking nurses to do more without increasing compensation, amount of staff, or resources. Resident program can be a mess from time to time and it’s usually always the same problem with different people year after year, with nothing done to prevent the issues from coming up in the first place.

Pros

Staff is so nice and helpful, that’s literally the only Pro.

Cons

Poor care for patients most Doctors don’t care and do bare minimum for pts. Management doesn’t care about staff, doesn’t advocate for them. Vacations constantly denied cause not enough staff Unsafe ratios .Short staffed constantly No Cna’s cause they pay them so poorly No communication on ever changing policy’s Pay is very low No Opportunities for advancement. No training or certification programs. New nurses and new hires not getting enough orientation time due to short staff. Unsafe!
