      DSD1 or Distribution System Dispatcher. It's alright. Not worth the sacrifice.

      Pros

      The pay was really good & my the other people in my department were lovely.

      Cons

      Mandatory OT Shift work. Including weekends, overnight & 12 hour shifts. Work is terrible. You are required to deal with angry and rude technicians & customers. Other dispatchers, not in my dept, were often standoffish. The 1 week "training" period is a joke.

      Pros

      Engineering career ladder is very well laid out so you know when to expect your next promotion and are never guessing if you meet the criteria. Workplace is friendly and inclusive. Rotation program for new engineers allows you to move positions after 2 years without interviewing. Salary is somewhat competitive for the job market, keeping in mind you are not expected to work overtime unless you are on call (paid overtime when called in) and have insane job security (only other local companies that pay more are consultants which tend to be over worked and disposable).

      Cons

      Little to no yearly salary adjustment unless you're up for a raise. Historically have received around 1.5 - 2% inflation adjustment which is nowhere near actual inflation. It's difficult to get 100% of your bonus unless you participate in all the frilly 'extra' things they offer outside of your job description. However, most folks do tend to get 97-99% of their bonus. Base salary raises more than the small yearly adjustment only happen at 2 years (E01 --> E02), 5 years (E02 --> E03, must have 2 job experiences), and 8 Years (E03, senior Eng, must have 3 job experiences). The thing that bothers me as an engineer is that you are highly encouraged to engage in networking and leadership 'extracurriculars' but hardly any technical 'extracurriculars' are offered to help you grow and expand your technical knowledge. They are beefing up their spend but did not plan how this would impact individual workload, many folks are burnt out quickly especially in project management and project facing engineering. Don't offer complete remote flexibility, depending on your manager they may be more lenient but the company policy is to report to the office 3 days a week.
