Steady position

Pros

Steady hours and consistent. they have benefits to even the part time. easy job. cover from the elements. did have in-service once in a while(could have used more often but is better than none like other companies), managers seemed to trust lifeguards and didn't micromanage.

Cons

difficult to get days off due to low staff - lifeguards are in short supply everywhere. didn't get a raise and just about impossible to move into any other position besides swim instructor.

Pros

The leadership team is a mixed bag - some people have been there a really long time and get promoted seemingly because of this. Feedback is asked for a lot (yay!), but never used (boo). Great perks for parents. Fun staff activities throughout the year.

Cons

The people that are there to actually improve things seldom stay long because they're better suited for an organization willing to make the improvements and move forward. Compared to other nonprofits in the San Mateo area their salaries are weak, too.
