Pros

There is a strong work ethic and dedicated professionalism among colleagues. Everyone is very knowledgeable, helpful, and highly skilled at what they do. Asking for help among colleagues seems natural and easy. POET offers a variety of learning and training opportunities as well, so we keep abreast of changes in the field. Easy going work atmosphere with nice accommodations for employees such as a food market and an outside eating area next to a waterfall, plus kitchenettes and coffee areas in workspaces. I've taken advantage of other perks such as discounts for tickets at the Washington Pavilion and the Apple Orchard as well. I do also appreciate the time off benefits with having three kids and needing to run them to appointments from time to time.

Cons

While I don't usually subscribe to working remotely, in the winter months this might be welcomed more during the wintery weather.

POET cares for employees

Pros

Between my wife and I, we've worked in 5 different job settings. In our experience, POET goes above and beyond implementing programs and experiences that translate into phenomenal growth opportunities that have lead to promotions and increased responsibilities. In terms of benefits, POET has always had a keen eye towards what would make the benefits package better. In the years I've been employed, we've added three additional holidays and the 401k match has gone from 3-4%, while the employee component has dropped from 2:1 to 1:1 to achieve the benefit. POET has also focused on family and does it's best to provide flexibility to navigate family situations. Another new program added in the last few years was 40 hours of leave when a new baby comes home or a child is adopted. The focus on employee benefits has been fantastic.

Cons

As in all manufacturing jobs, there can be a level of stress at the biorefinery that must be personally managed. The biorefineries feel understaffed and many folks wear multiple hats.
