Pros

PPG is a very numbers driven organisation and with high level of focus on driving shareholder value and is very prudently managed and therefore a strong dependable prospect as the way they managed the recent global recession demonstrated.

Cons

As a general rule PPG does not rank creativity and innovation and is quite a conservative organisation with low levels of risk taking (may be not a down side??) However, for people looking for a dynamic creative environment probably PPG would be disappointing.

Positive and Negatives of PPG

Pros

If you can get into the Accelerated Training Program, it will be worth your time. You will move to a variety of divisions in the company, with success and an in house mentor throughout your career. PPG promotes from within whenever possible and their stock program (when active) is excellent.

Cons

If you are not in the ATP program, it is a little more difficult to get promoted. Hard work is one thing, but being in the program(the future of the company) is yet another. Once you get to a certain level there are many "who you know" types of personalities. This may be commonplace in very large organizations.

Pros

Ethical, conservative, and stable company that devotes much time and money into training, developing new talent. Great place to start a career or to stay for life. Many people in the company have worked their entire careers at PPG , but have worked in a variety of business units.

Cons

May be difficult to transition between business units, compensation is less than satisfactory, seems to be difficult to move up in the company through the sales side. Operations pays off faster for upward mobility.
