Pros

Helps you to get a job in plant after a year.

Cons

Training is poor and the dock group is not guaranteed 40 hours a week. Companies pay overtime where you work, but it is not payed to employees until you work 40 hours. Long hours, sometimes 16 hour shifts and very boring. Management is terrible very unorganized and dock group not valued at all and work is not fairly distributed. Dispatch frequently makes mistakes on hours worked when called in.

Pros

Safety-focused, committed to providing good job training and professional development, on-going fun social events to show appreciation for employees and their families, an impressive number of employees who have worked for the company for 20+ years. Good benefits, including matching 401k, company-paid life & disability insurance. A growing company with a strong reputation in the industry and a bright outlook for the future.

Cons

Work schedules are structured around the needs of the customers, so they can be difficult at times. Some sites have trouble filling vacancies due to competition in the labor market, and that can result in increased workloads for employees and not enough off days.

Pros

The only pro to working for SGS in the refinery field is its a good stepping stone for a career in the petrochemical industry once you get a few years under your belt.

Cons

Management does not care about the lower levels, as long as everything performs well and as safe as possible then everything is a-ok to them. People constantly are late to work and nothing happens, no disciplinary action is taken against them. Advancement is few and far between, pay is no where near what it should be for the work you do. Just another contract company trying to make the most off their employees that they can before they quit.
