Pros

Lots of creative, passionate, inspired colleagues at the staff level. Opportunities to network in the industry.

Cons

Out-dated, outmoded executive decision-making. People in senior management are dinosaurs in the industry and don't know how to capitalize on innovations in media, content development and distribution and brand positioning. Most decisions are made at the corporate (MTVN) level, which doesn't see the day-to-day reality of the MTV business or audience. They force dated thinking on staff, and expect staff to just follow-through without argument. The "culture of fear" referenced elsewhere on this board is alive and kicking, and it's sending good people out the door for better, less stressful opportunities.

Pros

I find that the absolute best reason to work for CBS Interactive is the diversity, youth, and warmth of my coworkers. Whereas other places at which I have interviewed were dominated by 40-something overseas-born males, it's been a much more interesting and balanced work environment to work in at CBS Interactive. The mix is just right between the energy and education of the younger employees and the experience and knowhow of the older ones. Secondly, I've always felt that CBS Interactive has always been more than fair regarding family needs and personal health, providing adequate time off or being able to work from home as necessary. In general, the management is easy to talk to and can be counted on to advocate for you in the appropriate situation (defending reasonable deadlines, for instance). Although some of the decisions that upper management have made have been difficult, I've always felt those decisions have been intelligent ones. In addition, I've always been appreciative of the generous holiday allotment, including the week and a half off during the winter holidays for all employees.

Cons

The salaries are probably a bit lower than the market value. The benefits used to make up for it when it was still CNET Networks, but since the integration with CBS, the benefits have been reduced to only a satisfactory level.

Pros

There are many reasons to why CBS Interactive is predominantly one of the best places to work in the bay area. Unfortunately I never got to see that side of the company. If i can take one positive experience from working at CBS Interactive it would have been the people on the same level as you are. By this i mean the people who aren't your subordinate or people who aren't higher than you. The people on your same level know what you go through and can sympathize with you when you make mistakes, rather than upper level positions criticize you and make it near impossible to move forward in your career.

Cons

There are many downsides of working at CBS Interactive, and to be completely honest with you, they outweigh the positives. Management is very poorly ran, and they truly treat the lowest on the totem pole with the most lack of respect i have ever seen in a company. Sure, i understood that my position would be hard and rough. It was also brought to my attention that i was expected to make mistakes, but once a mistake came...I was reprimanded and never shown in the same light ever again. I brought my problems i had with the company to HR, and to be honest with you they made it seem like accommodating my requests were a heavy task and not worth their time. I ultimately left the company because of the negativity towards the workforce in the company.
