Toxic Dinosaur Swamp

Pros

Good benefits for a media company although it's not up to par with tech firms. Fun and stability if you're at an earlier stage in your career. Lot of exposure to different areas of the industry with some flexibility to move around within the company.

Cons

Alpha-type, aggressive, political senior management. Regular layoffs and reorgs. A culture of fear and an emphasis on appearances or surface-level, short-term wins. Desperately trying to stay relevant but the content and consumer-facing strategies and tactics are dated and rely heavily on variations of past successes. As mentioned in the Pros section, ViacomCBS is a great place to start your career, but I highly recommend you move on after 2-3 years as you'll soon start working more closely with senior management and become trapped in the toxic environment that they create. If you want to stay in media, NBCUniversal and Disney are known as better workplaces. ViacomCBS is recognized at being low on the list.

Pros

PTO is great, but that’s about it.

Cons

Leadership is completely lost. They are so far behind other media companies, they’ve resorted to essentially throwing darts to see what works. They are cutting costs to a point where networks can’t operate which I imagine is due to them positioning the sale of the Corp but places a huge burden on the remaining staff and the tons of freelancers they use to avoid paying benefits.
