Pros

CNET was an amazing company to work at. Very social. Full of smart, driven people that loved building cool sites with industry respected editorial. With the right manager, hard work was rewarded with pay raises or promotions.

Cons

Since CBS purchased the company they challenged everything from the enjoyable social atmosphere to personal benefits to farming out technical teams out of san francisco. Used to be fun. Now it's just work. CNET/CBS pays right at or slightly below industry standard. The lower salary used to be balanced by better benefits but those have been reduced.

Pros

A large company with great benefits. If you are fortunate enough to work for an area that is the "flavor of the day" you can have a really good experience.

Cons

As is often the case in large companies, you'll have to be "in" with the right people to get ahead. Joining the "boys club" is not easy at all. The company has changed a lot since the early days of MTV.

Pros

Good company to start out at and then use as a springboard for newer, more innovative jobs elsewhere.

Cons

It was once a cutting edge company but now it has been described as "a dinosaur in the online world" by clients. Tougher and tougher to sell to clients. There's a lot of apathy.
