I loved the job, travel was phenomenal and getting to meet and work with so many different international people was really cool. Didn't have to pay rent or bills while on the ship because you don't need anything

Cons

Park West Gallery is composed of crooks, liars and they treat their employees like garbage. frequently broke international maritime law in regards to 14 hour work day limit. company does not care at all whether you get a crappy manager or one who an teach you pay is pathetic until you're promoted to auctioneer, and even then the fines that roll in are ridiculous upper management does not communicate well with ships. 7 day work week on the ships but only 5 day workweek on land. they desperately need someone in miami who works weekends as ALL of your ships need assistance

We are happy to hear that you enjoyed the perks of traveling and saving money while working onboard. We are very disappointed to hear that you felt you weren’t treated properly. At every training, we have a session to discuss ILO, timekeeping, and labor laws, and we there are compliance reviews to ensure our Auctioneers know to uphold these rules. Auctioneers have also been terminated from cruise lines for violating these laws as the cruise lines are required to uphold these laws as well. We do really care if someone is not a good manager, which is why we have confidential Auctioneer evaluations to ensure we have the right people leading our shipboard teams. Additionally, we have a shoreside manager that is on duty all weekend, every weekend, to provide that support that may be needed to ships or those that are traveling onto or off of a ship. We stand by the quality of our art work and the artists that we represent. We do not sell mass-produced posters, however we do have some free works of art that we give as prizes that are open edition graphic works of art, and these are not hand signed. Important to note that we do not sell these, we give them away as prizes.

- Getting to interact and deal with unique art works on a daily basis - Telling people you work for an international art company - Occasional trips to Miami to company events at their other office

Cons

This review is relating to the main corporate office in Michigan, so it should not necessarily reflect the auctioneer positions on cruise ships as those are very different in scope and experience. Park West is a messy place to work. You are promised lots and given little in return. There is an unhealthy amount of nepotism that takes place here - putting unqualified people in power simply because of their family relationship to the CEO. Internal organization, office politics, and direction are all over the place and you will never be truly satisfied or feel proud of your work. Heavy micro-managing from the top down over the most minor details are very frustrating and are counter-productive. You also have to clock in using a biometric hand scanner, benefits are little to none, low vacation time (unless you're a family member of the CEO). Raises and performances reviews are few and far between, so negotiate a high salary when you get hired. Lastly, they have a bad reputation in the art world and don't treat their clients very ethically. Do your research online before considering working here.

Horrible working conditions, 18 hour days, bosses who are allowed to treat you like dirt, confining rules that are made up as they go along. They will take your money once you become part of upper management. Do not trust this company.

Sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your experience. Yes, auction days are long, typically 12-14 hours, but they won’t be every day. Still, it is important to have a good work ethic when working on a ship. We don’t take anyone’s money when they become part of management. If we were to do that, who would agree to become part of management, or remain part of management if we were to do so? People agree to become and remain managers because the pay and/or benefits are greater than before. We also do not support poor management, which is why we ask everyone to review their supervisor once a month. If a manager does not not improve with coaching, we remove them from the management position. We are sorry to be responding so late and wish you all the best.
