Pros

There are lots of great people to work with, and the benefits are decent. Do not hire on expecting growth potential, hire on and plan to be stuck in that position until you leave the company.

Cons

It is almost impossible to move to another position, for several reasons. The first, managers will hold you hostage despite near perfect performance reviews for 4 years. If you are good at what you do, your manager will not let you move on, or upward. Instead, you will be told in August that you must wait until after year end to apply, then you will be told in January or February that you still cannot move on, because your manager is not ready and your move date must be negotiated and will be several months. Do not hire on at this company expecting lots of room for growth, because it is a lie.

Pros

-Ageism is not really a thing here. You don't have to have 20 years experience to even be considered for a manager title. -Lots of cute perks like a Caribou Coffee machine with cappuccinos, ping pong table, video games -Modern technology so you aren't in the Stone Age -Lots of millennials (like seriously, it's ALL millennials) so you'll get that community/family vibe that millennials love so much. -Most departments have a generous WFH policy -Because management is so young, they are flexible and impressionable, so you have an opportunity to make a difference -Great job stability

Cons

-Health insurance premiums are high -6 holiday vacation days (no Christmas Eve)...literally the worst out of any places I've worked in all of corporate America -No paid maternity or paternity leave. None at all. For a company that likes to pretend it's progressive, this is a slap in the face -Very little diversity. -No work life balance. Don't ever plan on leaving at 5. -Sales and Marketing is a weird dictatorship and boys club. Don't come in with new ideas or they'll all act like you are trying to take their job. No organization...for a company that is public and somehow ranked as this fabulous place to work, they are absolutely set up like a start up (not in a good way). Also, get ready to party your face off, or else you might not fit in. If you have a family to go home to at 5, you will not fit in. And that awesome WFH thing that the rest of the company loves so much doesn't apply to this department.

Bad managers/leadership hurt the company

Pros

- casual dress code - work from home days - really great peers to work and collaborate with from all over the country (remote-friendly) - flexibility - the CEO

Cons

I loved my actual job. It was great for a stretch, Paylocity was my family and despite its faults, you felt like together we were trying to improve. Then the bad days started. It was rarely job specific tasks that made my days go bad. It was management's bad behavior which came from the immediate manager and from executives higher up the org chart. The negative effects of bad management are profound. Let's face it, it makes people unhappy. The best leaders are excellent at understanding and relating to many different kinds of people, unfortunately in the past few years Paylocity has acquired and/or promoted some that relate only to people like themselves. I found myself working for some bad managers with no desire or skill to improve their ways, so the best (or even the only solution) for me was to quit and go work somewhere else.
