Pros

Pearson is a cutting-edge company with a huge reach. Their resources are vast and allow for exciting opportunities in terms of personal professional growth and development. Attending conferences and taking courses is encouraged and paid for. Additionally, the colleagues are exceptionally friendly and caring.

Cons

The current HR structure and policies do not allow for substantial salary raises. Many people receive promotions, but don't receive the added salary. It is commonly known that in order to "climb the ladder," one must quit and then try to get re-hired. Additionally, external candidates are more sought after for positions. While there is internal recruitment and leadership development, it is more "on paper" than in practice. Accordingly, external candidates can receive higher salaries than an internal promotion. This leads to a lack of upward mobility and employee retention.

Pros

In my experience, management is totally behind the "family first" concept and respects employees' ability to balance work and life without requiring time-clock punching. The company also provides lots of personal education opportunities to employees.

Cons

It's a very, very large company. Sometimes it's hard to know what's going on in related areas because of the number of people and locations invovled.
