Good entry point into corporate work, but emotionally demanding and underpaid
Pros
Pearson is a well-known, respected company and working as an Enrollment Advisor is a solid foot in the door to Corporate America. The role provides structured training, exposure to corporate systems, and experience working with students and families across the country. For someone early in their career or transitioning into corporate work, it offers valuable resume experience and internal mobility opportunities later on.
Cons
The role is extremely demanding for the pay. Hours can be long and rigid, inbound calls are constant, and the emotional labor is significant. Advisors are frequently yelled at by frustrated parents and guardians, which can be draining over time. Calls are recorded and heavily graded, sometimes in very subjective ways. I once received a low score because the reviewer said I “didn’t sound like I was smiling,” which was discouraging and highlighted how arbitrary feedback can feel. Overall, the expectations placed on advisors do not always align with compensation or support.
